summer WAHOO!

Jeez, I went on vacation for not even a whole week to see Star Wars Episode III in Michigan with one of my bestest friends in the whole world, and now I am so overwhelmed! More than that, I have no idea what is going on!
I missed one corps day- one- and all of a sudden, AMA isn't a host site anymore, the three members that were there- two of which making up the rest of the blog/newsletter/reflection committee- have to be relocated. We lost another member, but he will be staying on with his host site but not as AmeriCorps. AHHH!!!
I am working on planning for the summer at my sites, and I am so excited! We have some really great programs planned out- Wendy and I are doing a weekly photo club with the kids. We have an awesome Islamic studies major volunteer who came in to take pictures of the kids, and now she's going to take pictures with the kids. We are even going to be in an exhibition at the end of the summer!
I also wrote a grant for organizations who did National Youth Service Day- Wendy and I planned a service club that will do weekly community service projects at Skyline. The projects include community gardens, recycling, a no-smoking campaign, and some kid literacy stuff. I am PSYCHED for SERVICE! Even if we don't get the grant, we can still do service.
But I still have a lot of work to do. We're trying to work something out for teen program in the lab, and I am putting together a binder of ideas for kid programs. I am super pumped about these too: so far I've brainstormed some activities like tessalations, learning about and making biomes, an online scavenger hunt, greeting cards... the possibilities are as edless as the Internet!!!
